Description
For over 20 productive years, Eirik Hegdal has been a major force in Norwegian jazz. He is known through his years as artistic director of the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, four releases with Team Hegdal (Norwegian Grammy in 2015), several projects with the explorative classical Alpaca Ensemble, among many other constellations.
“Musical Balloon» is a commissioned work for the Norwegian jazz festival Vossa Jazz in 2018, and when it was performed at Voss, a broad press smiled from ear to ear. The jazz magazine Downbeat wrote among other things «..one of the best commissions of recent vintage.” “..a fascinating suite in a micro-big band context, laced with theatricality, moments of swinging bravura and an overall narrative ebb-and-flow.”
This balloon ride offer a very inspired sextet of top musicians: the two Swedes: Mattias Ståhl (vibraphone) and Jon Fält (drums), and Hegdal’s fellow Norwegians: Eivind Lønning (trumpet / piccolo trumpet), Nils-Olav Johansen (guitar / banjo / vocals) and Ole Morten Vågan (double bass). Hegdal plays the clarinet / C Melody saxophone / bass clarinet.
