Ståle Storløkken & Eirik Hegdal – From the Sandbox

Step into the “sandbox”—a musical universe where nothing is as expected, and everything is
possible. Here, two of Norway’s most inventive improvisers and composers create new worlds at
the intersection of acoustic and electronic sound.

Following their critically acclaimed debut Acoustic Movements (2021), Ståle Storløkken and Eirik
Hegdal return with From the Sandbox—a new collection of spontaneous soundscapes, recorded
live at Dokkhuset in Trondheim before an attentive audience. The music is free and playful, yet
with a clear sense of structure, timbre, and orchestration. Piano, woodwinds, Haken Audio
Continuum, and OP-1 synth converge in a quest for both beauty and the unexpected.

Storløkken is known from Supersilent, Elephant9, and collaborations with Motorpsycho and Terje
Rypdal. He is a master at blending acoustic and electronic expressions and has been a central
figure in Norwegian experimental music since the 1990s.

Hegdal is an award-winning composer and saxophonist, known from Team Hegdal, EnEnEn, and
as the former artistic director of the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, where he collaborated with artists
like Joshua Redman and Pat Metheny.

From the Sandbox is a tribute to playfulness, listening, and the unpredictable—a musical journey
where sand monsters, star nebulas, and chattering melodies emerge and vanish in an ever-
changing landscape.
